Blush + Brews is a free monthly dance party that takes place at the Crown (Red Room). Last night, Gusher, Ace Manual, Movakween, and Native Sun took the stage. What separates Blush + Brews from any other curated event is an awareness of community and a motivation to put together an interdisciplinary lineup of artists, bringing together a diverse crowd full of positivity and a thirst for art (and alcohol). Below is a photo gallery of last night shenanigans:
Pink Rage, hosted at The Crown (Red Room) last night, brought together artists from Atlanta and Baltimore. See the photo gallery of the evening below:
Mykki Blanco is making a mark in rap music on her Stunt Queer Tour. She is a voice for the LGBTQ community, gender fluidity, and HIV. Her presence is unapologetically radical. She breaks all the rules–she calls the community out, she climbs on rails, she dances on the bar, she moshes with the audience– during her performance. Mykki isn’t defined through the narrow confines of society. She defines herself. And she inspires us to do the same. Mikki’s lyrics flow from angry confrontational moments to dark introspective moments, reflecting the way our brains process strife. Her struggle is so evident through her artistry. She mentioned to the crowd that she’d had some of the lowest lows, but to see her channeling that energy to protest injustice is remarkable. We love Mykki and can’t wait to witness her presence again on the Protest Stage at Moogfest! Below are some remaining tour dates and some pictures from both the Raleigh and Baltimore shows. Moogfest returns to Durham for another year of technology, innovation, and music! With an incredible lineup and artists and speakers, Moogfest is sure to inspire even more forward thought and discussion than last year. With headlining acts Flying Lotus, Animal Collective, Suzanne Ciani, and Gotye this years performances will not disappoint. See the full lineup below: Moogfest is largely known for being a festival inspired by progressive thought (regarding the social, technological, and art spheres). With several themes this year–the future of creativity, black quantum futurism, hacking systems, instrument design, the joyful noise of STEAM, protest, sci-fi wishes and utopian dreams, spatial sound, transhumanism, and techno-shamanism–Moogfest is not just any music festival. Instead, it’s centered around critical discussion, making it stand out from the rest. These themes will be executed in the form of performances, workshops, conversations, a modular market place, films, and instillations. For lodging, you can check out this link for nearby discounted hotel and camping rates. Additionally, Durham is a foodie town, so be sure to checkout the local restaurants and food trucks …
Friends Records kicked off the month of March with a touring showcase, featuring amazing acts Blacksage, Wing Dam, Hotline, Bond St District, Natural Velvet, and Jenny Besetzt who performed varying lineups in Baltimore, Raleigh, NYC, the Outer Banks, and DC. I was lucky enough to check out the shows in Baltimore and Raleigh. Check out the photo evidence below:
Ancora (Raleigh, NC) released his debut EP, Potpourri, last week and it’s worth the listen, trust! It’s funky, electronic, and a little experimental in sound. Marc, the man behind the project, describes “this EP [as] a way for [him] to focus on creating well written songs instead of just hopping from one random project to another, which wasn’t helping [his] development as a producer. [He] wants to continue to release [his] own music as an artist, but also develop [his] skills as a producer so [he] can work with artists and help realize the full potential of their own songs.” I’m loving this EP for it’s fullness in sound and it’s extraterrestrial vibes. The tracks inspire a feeling of synesthesia in their kaleidoscopic sound. Expect to see more of him in the future and stay tuned for a tour announcement this spring! Meanwhile, check out his debut music video below: Check out more of Ancora: Facebook Soundcloud Twitter
